Thank You Letter for the Donation to the Dr. Everett Chalmers Foundation
Thank you for your donation to the Chalmers Foundation.
Money raised will be donated in memory of Andre Theriault to make much-needed updates to the Comfort Roomused by families with a loved one in the Intensive Care Unit at the DECH. Andre had a long battle with heart disease and there are many good choices for a memorial donation. With organizations raising money for equipment or research, remodelling a room may not seem like the obvious choice.
Fredericton families are faced with life or death situations every day at the ICU. In these circumstances, family members must stay close-by to receive updates, make important decisions and to provide support to your loved one. The furniture in the waiting room was donated over 10 years ago to provide comfort to these families; it has been well-used and now needs to be replaced.
Andre’s condition changed dramatically from minute-to-minute and I was advised not to leave thehospital. For three days we waited for Andre’s condition to stabilize so he could be transferred to Halifax where the ‘Tinman’would finally get a new heart. The Comfort Room was a private place to meet with doctors, to celebrate good news, and to be surrounded by our family as the situation became worse. On April 2nd, this was the room where we began to grieve the loss of a husband, a son, a brother and a friend.
In memory of Andre, we will be working with the Chalmers Foundation and ICU staff to create a more comfortable place for families to spend the long hours during these difficult times.
I am deeply touched by the caring and generosity of your theatre group.
Thank you,
Stacey Brown (Andre's Wife)
